The Iraq International Book Fair, held on the grounds of the Baghdad International Fair, hosted the head of Al Nasr Coalition, Dr. Haider al-Abadi, today, Thursday.
During his tour of the Book Fair, which was held under the sponsorship of the Al Mada Foundation and under the slogan "It has been called Palestine," Al-Abadi met several society elites, writers, and publishers.
During a dialogue session held by the Book Fair, Dr. Al-Abadi spoke about a group of cultural, economic, and political topics of interest to Iraq and the region. He reviewed the importance of culture and knowledge in building a cohesive society and the role of books and reading in enhancing awareness and understanding among people.
Al-Abadi said: "The Iraqi cultural system still has major stages ahead of it to keep pace with the profound transformations in Iraq. The politician and the intellectual must plan and work together to make the structure of the political system a cultural structure that embodies the spirit and purpose of the political system and its goals." Calling for a "cultural process" side by side with a "political process" that adopts an integrated vision and policy for all paths of societal transformation in Iraq, towards what is required, hoped for, and future trends of society and the state, which is a national solidarity mission in which state institutions and all sectors of civil culture participate.
He also touched on Iraq's economic challenges, stressing the need to adopt sustainable economic policies that enhance the country's ability to recover and grow.
The audience, including a wide range of elites from various fields, interacted with what Dr. Al-Abadi proposed.
