Today, Wednesday, the head of Al Nasr Coalition, Dr. Haider Al-Abadi, hosted an elite group of academic artists, actors and directors, as part of his weekly meetings series with the elites of society.
The session was opened with a speech by Dr. Al-Abadi in which he spoke about the role of vital art in reflecting and promoting social and cultural issues, its contribution in directing attention to important issues, and encouraging thinking and dialogue.
Al-Abadi added: "Art has a positive impact on peace and community education by promoting understanding and appreciating diversity, and building bridges between different groups of society, so it is important to support it."
Dr. Al-Abadi pointed to the example of using elections as a topic or context to deliver social messages by presenting artistic works that highlight the importance of political participation and the positive influence of the individual in shaping the future, as well as encouraging critical thinking and dialogue.
Regarding the events in Gaza, which occupy a fixed share of the weekly meetings, the recent reality was discussed, especially its humanitarian aspect. Al-Abadi said: "The world must realize that security, stability and peace in the region and the world will not be achieved as long as Palestine is occupied and the rights of its people are violated. It is in the interest of world peace that the world stand in solidarity with Palestine by restoring its usurped rights and ending the power of aggression and occupation."
The artists discussed with Dr. Al-Abadi the challenges they face, most notably the need for the artistic field to support the relevant institutions to provide an environment that encourages creativity and enhances the role of art in society.
