The spokesman for Al Nasr Coalition, Ahmed Al-Wandi, confirmed that the former US Secretary of State, "Mike Pompeo, wasn't helped with lying as he recounted his heroism in his newly released memoirs.
He said: "We do not care about what his friends describe before his opponents, on deliberating lies to pass his agenda and his ambition to run for the 2024 elections, and portraying his personality as the hero in important global events during the Trump administration of America. However, what concerns us is what Pompeo mentioned about an alleged meeting that never took place with Dr. Al-Abadi, and because we see in this statement a deliberate lie and an insult to the dignity of the Iraqi state and its government at the time.
Pompeo says in his memoirs that he visited Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi in 2017 and warned him of US sanctions if Iraq continued to import electricity from Iran, and asked him: "If the United States offered financial support, would Iraq stop importing electricity from Iran?". It is reported that Al-Abadi looked at him directly and said: "Mr. Director, when you leave, Qasem Soleimani will come to see me, you can take my money, he will take my life".
Al-Wandi indicated that what Pompeo claimed was an absolute lie, as Pompeo did not visit Iraq in 2017, but in 2019, and basically there were no sanctions against Iran in 2017 to ask Al-Abadi to stop importing electricity from Iran .The US sanctions against Iran began in late 2018, so how can he ask for something that did not exist!!
Al-Wandi said: "We ask Mr. Pompeo to prove what he officially mentioned, through the schedule of visits and the archive of conversations, and if he did not do it (and he will not do it as it is pure slander), let him accept the accusation of lying and the cheap marketing of his championships.
What Pompeo mentioned, and in this degrading language, affects our national dignity and the achievements and leadership of our country, which courageously and wisely managed a major global battle on its soil during 2014-2018 and emerged victorious, unified and strong socially, economically and sovereignly.
